The upcoming Nike SB Dunk High Premium “Skunk” was unveiled yesterday and is already one of the most talked-about sneakers of this entire year. Its inspiration makes you wanna giggle and not just because it’s ironic to see the Swoosh push the envelope in this direction. Turns out that one of our particularly astute readers was on the right track when he commented “Bratrud does it again.” That’s because today, with these new images, it’s been revealed that this is the latest design from longtime Nike SB collaborator Todd Bratrud. Take a look at the various shades of green suede you will be getting when these drop in April, presumably right around the 20th. Combined with purple accents and a hidden stash pocket under the tongue.

Is this upcoming Nike Dunk SB under the Witness Protection Program? First off, the “Chirping Bird” name has been changed. This upcoming Quickstrike has been renamed to Larry Perkins, the name of the skater that inspired the colourway. Secondly, the Larry Perkins Nike Dunk SB underwent a transplant as the Chirping Bird mechanism as been replaced by one that makes telephone ringing sounds, as Larry Perkins was known to be dialing up other skate-pros and magazines. The overall design, colourway and material use remains, but the identity has seen a vast alteration. These are expected to drop on March 20th at select Nike SB retailers, so have your local Nike SB spot on speed dial and lock down your pair.

Here are some extra images of a Premium output of the Nike Dunk High SB, set to drop in Spring/Summer of 2010. The colorful Coogi sweater-like graphic is actually wool material, something Nike SB seldom uses, so consider that an added incentive to pick up a pair. Since the unfortunately death of DJ AM, many have wondered if the Nike Dunk he designed will ever release. DJ Premier recently mentioned on his show that the DJ AM Dunk was still on schedule and earlier today Kasina confirmed this by surprisingly releasing them. This collaboration Nike Dunk features DJ AM’s logo on the tongue, black patent leather wrapping much of the shoe, red premium leather for the toebox, side panels and the upper heel while a light grey swoosh and a white midsole round out the shoe. A unique feature are the three rows of perforations along the heel with 3M underneath, similar to the dots of a Technics Turntable for RPM reading. The number of Halloween-themed footwear releases is massive this season. Nike alone has set the holiday-inspired bar higher than ever with releases ranging from the new Day of the Dead Quickstrikes Pack to the Blood Splatter SB Blazer High. We already saw one ‘creepy’ Nike Dunk SB Low, and here is another. It is got the orange and black look down, plus the hemp underlay adds a nice rustic look for autumn. Taking cues from the original Gino Iannucci series, Nike SB offers a new Nike Dunk SB Low pairing Obsidian/Grey suede with Black perforated Leather and mesh. A White midsole and detailing tie the design together, wrapped as a present, and ready to be purchased by the SB faithful, although there’s still no indicator that the stuffed tongue from season’s past will ever reemerge. The quote-unquote Gucci look has been one of the most popular colourways for this season. This is the second Nike Dunk High Premium to feature the combination of forest green, deep red and black. DJ Clark Kent’s version repped the East coast for the Rivalry Pack but this joint is a little more specific. Released by Nike SB, these were originally designed by Girl Skateboards in 2005 to drop alongside the Nike Dunk SB Low “Tiffany” by Diamond Supply.

Apparently Crailtap wasn’t happy that Girl would give such a dope design to Nike, given their own Lakai footwear label. They axed the project, but now we are getting an updated version for late 2009. These come with ‘RESN’ on the tongue tag, a shout to Girl’s Sam Smyth, who used to spray that tag for the IBC crew all over the Bay Area.
